Brawny: Last of The Paper Towel Men (to look like Jack Wrangler)
The Brawny brand of paper towels first appeared on American grocery store shelves in the mid-1970s, fronted by a rugged mascot built for the era. The earliest version of the Brawny Man featured feathered hair, flannel, and an ax. During the 1980s and 1990s, the image gradually evolved, the ax disappeared, and the mascot’s look shifted with the times.
As the millennium approached, Brawny moved toward a tighter hairstyle, a side part, a denim shirt, strawberry-blond coloring, and a substantial mustache, giving the mascot a strangely iconic late-century charm. Within a few years, the brand replaced that version with a cleaner, dark-haired woodsman look.
This unopened roll captures the later denim-shirt era of the classic Brawny Man, a grocery-store relic from a simpler paper towel age that will never come again.
