W. Kelley Lucas: Artist With Hammer, Will Travel

W. Kelley Lucas was working in Los Angeles in the late 1990s, creating brightly colored, distorted paintings with a wild Southwestern edge. By day, he worked as an art director inside Larry Flynt’s publishing operation at 8484 Wilshire Boulevard, but outside of that world he pursued his own work as a painter.

His style drew attention from galleries, patrons, and eventually Zippo, which honored Lucas with a series of lighters featuring his artwork. This commemorative card set includes ten glossy 4 x 6 cards, each showcasing one of his paintings. The backs include the artwork title, dimensions, an artist quote that inspired Lucas, and a photograph of Lucas himself.

The set is enclosed in a wrap-around cover case and captures a vivid slice of Lucas’s Los Angeles art period before he moved on to other pursuits in Florida.

Dimensions: Four inches horizontally, Six inches vertically (4 x 6”)

Condition: Very Good. Some mild aging of case.
